Katherine McHarg started painting watercolour landscapes in 2022, developing a body of work dominated by skies or water in motion and turmoil. Katherine is most fascinated by abstract impressions versus clarity in paintings. She is inspired by the tension between a desire to understand and represent what one observes and the lack of control inherent in watercolour painting, particularly outdoors.
This work represents the places where Katherine connects with the natural world, often in Haliburton, Ontario, watching the scene evolve from the shifting stability of an old pontoon boat. The hills of Northumberland around Port Hope also provide constant inspiration.
