Bio
Katherine McHarg started painting landscapes in 2022, initially using quiet time alone in nature to refine her painting practice and develop a body of work dominated by skies or water in motion and turmoil. Trained in art in the eighties during her fashion degree at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson), Katherine has often turned to art to make sense of and record her own experience. During subsequent degrees in English Literature and Education, Katherine found ways to blend her studies with her love of art.
As an artist, Katherine is most fascinated by abstract impressions versus clarity in paintings. She is inspired by the curious tension between a desire to understand and represent what one observes and the lack of control inherent in watercolour painting, particularly outdoors.
These recent paintings represent the places where Katherine reflects on and connects with the natural world, often in Haliburton, Ontario, watching the scene evolve and transform from the shifting stability of an old pontoon boat. The hills of Northumberland also provide constant inspiration.
